Cooper T. Chell

Technical Writer and Editor

Hello!

I'm a Minnesota-based writer and editor looking for opportunities to use my professional communications skills in my community. I am currently working with a local team of mental health professionals to help create and edit the newest draft of their clinical therapy workbook. Furthermore, just last year I completed a Technical Writing Graduate Certificate program with the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. And before that, I graduated with an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing with the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Scroll down to find samples of my work!

The Three-Step Editing Process

Currently I work as a copy editor with Elizabeth Griffin, MA, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over thirty-five years of treatment experience, to help her team of mental health professionals draft and edit a new version of their clinical therapy workbook.

Below you'll find a short excerpt from a workbook section on fostering healthy engagement within a community, which I have edited to correct for minor errors, to improve the flow and clarity of the language, to include a useful section heading, and to standardize verb usage in the bulleted list. The excerpt is separated into three stages in order to show you how the editing process unfolds. The first version is the unedited copy provided by the client, and second version is my edited copy with all changes tracked and marked, and the third version is the final copy with all edits approved and implemented.

Unedited copy provided by the client.

Consultant Work

Jerry's Enterprises

In the fall of 2023, I served as creative consultant with Jerry's Foods, a division of Jerry's Enterprises, Inc. in Edina, Minnesota.

I initially consulted with company officials on usability and user behavior as the company sought to update the Jerry's Foods website. After learning about the company's goals for their new FAQ page, I researched existing company marketing materials to ensure consistency in tone, style, and branding. Then I researched comparable competitor companies' web design to inform the newly developed Jerry's Foods web content. Finally, in consultation with a marketing manager, I developed and produced new instructional promotional material in the form of physical documentation ("Bag Stuffers"), online infographics, and language for the company’s new FAQ page: https://www.jerrysfoods.com/faqs.

This instructional flow chart I created is used on the Jerry's Foods website's FAQ page to help new and returning customers create online shopping accounts.

These "Bag Stuffers" I designed are printed out onsite at Jerry's Foods locations and inserted into customers' grocery bags to help them create a new Jerry's Foods online shopping account.

"Children's Design" Narrated Slides

While researching information design, I created this slide set for a presentation on child-focused information design.

St. Paul Usability Testing Report

After completing our usability tests on the City of St. Paul's Rent Stabilization website, my team created this 30 minute video to report our findings back to the city.
